The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a support program for Australians with a permanent and significant disability. It provides funding for necessary supports and services to help participants achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
To be eligible for the NDIS, a person must:
- Be aged between 9 and 65 years
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
- Have a permanent and significant disability
- Require support now or in the future
To apply for the NDIS:
- Call 1800 800 110
- Submit the Access Request Form online
- Visit your local LAC (Local Area Coordinator) office
You’ll need documentation explaining how your disability affects daily life.
The NDIS funds a wide range of supports, including:
- Daily personal care
- Household tasks
- Community access
- Support coordination
- Transport assistance
- Therapy services
- Assistive technology
- Home modifications
Supports must be assessed as reasonable and necessary.
The NDIS is funded by the Australian Government through national taxation and the Medicare levy. Funding is distributed individually based on each participant’s needs and goals.
